Canadian citizens using Canadian passports can purchase a visa upon arrival (VOA) in the country at the first airport or land border crossing point. There is no application process.

Canadian citizens using Canadian passports require a visa to enter Turkmenistan.

According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan, Canadian citizens using Canadian passports "can also obtain a visa upon arrival at the International Airport of Ashgabat. In order to do that you must provide a valid passport, as well as the original or photocopy of the valid letter of invitation from a legal or physical person, certified with the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan." This means that with a proper official invitation document Canadians can get a visa-on-arrival (VOA) at the airport in Turkmenistan if officially invited by a person or an organization such as a travel company.
