Visa requirements for Canadians
Canadian citizens using Canadian passports do not need a visa to enter this country for limited stays.
Visa requirements for Foreigners
You must apply directly to the embassy or high commission for this visa. No third party can assist.
Non-Canadians must apply IN PERSON at the Consulate for the European Customs Treaty Zone visa. Visa seekers are advised that they must seek visas directly and in person from the embassy or consulate as they will be interviewed and fingerprinted and biometrically scanned.
Non-Canadians must make an appointment directly with the appropriate embassy or consulate and attend the IN PERSON interview and fingerprinting. You must contact the embassy for the appointment. The embassy will tell you which documents to bring to your appointment. Germany is a signatory of the European Customs Agreement on border control and visa standardization. Due to government regulations, no third party can assist you with your visa needs.
Travelers are advised that they must seek visas directly from the Embassy or Consulate in their consular region, even if it is not in their home province.
Non-Canadians with Canadian Permanent Resident cards and real valid foreign national passports (not Certificates of Identity) can sometimes transit Germany without a visa. A transit stop in Germany only allows a short stay in the international transit area, neither leaving the airport's international transit area nor overnight stays are possible. The following travellers do not require an airport transit visa:
- holders of a valid Canadian Permanent Resident Card
- holders of a valid Canadian visa
- travellers who leave Canada after having used a Canadian visa and still have legal status in Canada (Your status in Canada is legal until the date stamped in your passport when you entered Canada. If you have a work/study permit your status is legal until the permit expires.)
CHECK WITH YOUR AIRLINE BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS TRANSIT, AS REFUGEES ARE OFTEN REFUSED.
Foreigners with Canadian-issued REFUGEE documents (1951 convention refugees) and holding Canadian Permanent Resident cards are sometimes allowed short stays in Germany.
