Do I Need a Visa to Visit Ethiopia?

Canadian citizens using a Canadian passport require a visa to visit Ethiopia.

The government of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia now gives VISA-ON-ARRIVAL to tourists and to those in transit for less than 12 hours. Tourist visa can be issued for three months on arrival at Bole International Airport for nationals of Canada or one of the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Rep., Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, North Korea, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA.

Persons of Eritrean and Sudanese ethnic/national origin shall not be issued a visa on Arrival. Sudanese, former Sudanese, Eritreans and former Eritreans must obtain an entry visa prior to their departure to Ethiopia. Please contact us for extra forms for Sudanese and Eritreans. All such applicants must provide written and signed letters attesting to their political party affiliation.
