Do I Need a Visa to Visit Bulgaria?

Canadian citizens using a Canadian passport no longer need a visa to visit Bulgaria.

Nationals of the following countries, using regular passports, do not need a visa for stays under 90 days:
CANADA, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Costa, Rica, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech, Republic, Denmark, Estonia, El Salvador, Finland, France, Greece, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Norway, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, San, Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, U.S.A., Uruguay, Vatican, Venezuela, and U.N. passport holders.

All other nationals will need a visa.

Most other nationals will require an official invitation from Bulgaria prior to applying for a visa. Please consult your invitor in Bulgaria for this document.

Non-Canadians must apply IN PERSON at the Bulgarian Embassy for the Schengen Zone visa. Visa seekers are advised that they must seek visas directly and in person from the embassy as they will be interviewed and fingerprinted and biometrically scanned

Non-Canadians must make an appointment directly with the Bulgarian embassy and attend the IN PERSON interview and fingerprinting. You must contact the embassy for the appointment. The embassy will tell you which documents to bring to your appointment.


Bulgaria will soon be a member of the Schengen area Agreement on border control and visa standardization. The rules for a Schengen visa are now being implemented.
